Description:
Silent letters in words are always problematic to English language learner. If you are a teacher, you may have had this experience with your students. Hence, it is very useful to work with your students with silent letter words. Make a list and get your students to read aloud. Let them understand that certain letters in English words are only written and never pronounced.
**π¦π§
Never laugh or let others laugh when your student mispronounces a word or hang on a silent letter in a word.
e.g. COMB - /b/ silent
LISTEN - /t/ silent
Well a two suggestions: π
You can even get your students to make a booklet or display chart on the wall.
My objective here is to provide you with activities.

Description:
They say pictures speak more than words. You can use different pictures with the learner to derive the contextual meaning of a word or a sentence. Most children prefers working with pictures. At the OL examination ( Sri Lanka ) it is usually the 3rd question on the first paper. They also use picture reading as the 1 question, too. Work with pictures. It is interesting.

Activity 3:
Look at the picture and complete the paragraph with the words given beside the picture.
Com.8: Com. Level 8.6 uses modals: must / should and have to & Com. 6: Com. Level 6.3 Uses modals: must / have to
Must: 'must' is the most basic way of saying something is compulsory. 'must' is used to express a strong obligation. It means whether you like it or not ,you have no choice, but 'to do' or 'not to do'.
Must is used only in the present form. The past form of 'must' is 'had to'.
e.g.
I must go there tomorrow.
I had to go there yesterday.
'must' usually expresses an internal obligation. In other words 'must' is used when the speaker thinks that it is necessary to do so.
e.g.
I am tired. I must rest now. ( The decision is taken by you )
You must wear seat belts.
I am late. I must go now.
Have to:
'have to' is used when someone else thinks it is necessary to do so. 'have to' is more flexible than 'must'. Unlike 'must', it can be used in all the three tenses: present, past and future.
'don't have to' means it is not necessary to do so.
e.g.
I have to buy some vegetables for home.
(*πMay be your wife / husband reminded it)
You don't have to bring books tomorrow. There is a Shramadana.
(*πIt is not necessary to bring books tomorrow.)
I have to go now. Mother told me to come early.
should:
'should' means it is the right and correct thing to do so.
e.g.
You should wash your hands before eating.
(Washing hands is the right thing to do.)
pencil sharpeners / text books / pencil boxes / sisters-in-laws/ shoe racks / fruit sellers / name boards / story books.
butterfly / vegetable bed/ blackboard/ lamp post / rainforest
